  • Chitosan and essential oils have demonstrated antimicrobial activity.

  • The obtained nanoparticles had regular distribution, spherical shape and size 117 to 250 nm.

  • The obtained Z potential of the nanoparticles was +10 mV, +20.2 mV and +27 mV

  • Encapsulation of essential oils with the chitosan was achieved using the precipitation method

  • The chitosan nanoparticles with thyme essential oil inhibited Pectobacterium carotovorum
